Protecting feet whilst running

Any suggestions for looking after feet? Finished week 6 of c25k and looking forward to longer runs but feet could do with protection. Thanks,

Assuming you have a good pair of running shoes which are a must, specialist running socks are worth having, they absorb sweat, are thicker and padded often with arch support.

I tend to put shoes on. Excellent protection; far better than bare feet on the gravel ;-)

Oh, I can see that notbad provided a helpful response instead of my sarky one. I think she's spot on.

Agree with others re shoes and socks. My socks are labelled left & right. If you are having areas where shoes are rubbing and you want protection, Compeed or own brand equivalents from chemists are good.

Also look after your feet with well cut nails and keep hard skin at bay.

I use good old, cheapo Vaseline. You don't really need it until you're running 30 minutes or more but it's good if you have a bit that rubs. Not just your feet either

make sure your running shoes are not too small - they should have a thumb's breadth in front of your big toe when standing. Getting gait analysis can help to make sure they fit properly too. Good running socks really help too.

Your shoes may be too small if they are rubbing. Could also be the way you have them laced up. I have a great picture that gives you some tips on how to lace your shoes to avoid certain issues. I'll post it as a separate message for everyone to see/use. Let us know if it works for you.
