Well I purchased a race for life pink t shirt for Sunday a while ago , I'm only used to running in proper breathable fabrics though & this is 100% cotton , will I be a sweat y wreck in it do you think ? Coz I read somewhere you should not wear cotton for running , but as it's only 5 k , what u think folks ?

Can't say I have ever seen any real advice on what to wear. I would of thought cotton, being a natural material, would be fine.

I have synthetic running shirts, and they sort of work, for a while. I find in this heat after 5K I am leaking pretty hard, and the shirt is just a wreck.

Go for it, wear it with pride and run :)

Hi Rockette,

I think you'll be fine :) I don't currently have proper running t-shirts so run in cotton all the time apart from when it's cool enough to wear my long sleeved technical top. Tbh I don't think it makes you feel any different or any warmer. The only difference is cotton doesn't stay dry like wicking tops so can feel a little 'damp' against your skin when it gets sweaty.

If in doubt, have you got time to get out a test it before the day?

The problem with cotton is it holds the moisture so as you cool down you may feel chilled. So take something to change into as soon as you can if you feel uncomfortable. Probably be fine as its been hot its on cooler days that you get chilled. Good luck for your RFL :)

I have a cotton vest and I find it does absorb sweat but it's dead long and the bottom half does make a good cloth to wipe my brow and face, whereas a technical one would be no good for that job. Over 5k it'll be ok Rockette.

OG is right. They do make you feel cold and clammy once they get saturated

Cotton just gets wet when you are sweaty and it doesn't dry off so if there's a breeze you get cold and wet. Plus it sticks to you if its wet possibly giving a 'wet t-shirt' look. Can you wear a technical vest underneath ?
