Hello everyone. I started my c25k journey yesterday with my first run! I really enjoyed it and am very much looking forward to running again tomorrow. BUT boy do I ache!! I understand the legs etc. might feel a bit sore, but why on earth are my ribs hurting? Have I awakened muscles I didn't even realise I had, or has my husband punched me in my sleep?
Looking forward to keeping up with you all hopefully!!

Welcome I remember the aches and pains of that first week - you defo use muscles you don't even know you have hehe!
This won't last for too long though don't worry - it's just your body getting used to doing something different that's all
Good luck with the rest of your week and keep us updated on how you do xx
Welcome to running! Well done for getting started. Don't punch your husband back... Yet!!! I'm pretty sure it wasn't him. Your ribs will have been moving in and out as you've been breathing harder and giving those intercostal muscles a work out.
The aches and niggles are signs of the good work you're doing ( but make sure you take it seriously if the aches become real pain).
Rest days are important to build up the body's strength.
Enjoy tomorrow's run and keep posting to let us know how it's gone. X
Congratulations! W1R1 is the most amazing run ever! It's your first! It's the one we often have to really convince ourselves to do! I have enjoyed this program so much - and believe me I did come from couch! Make sure you stretch after runs but you won't ache as much very soon. Happy running! Xx
Thank you so much for the kind welcome! I have truly come straight from the couch too PandaRunner so I know it's going to be a slow process, but I am determined to see it through to the end and become a "runner"!! yes, spiky_moss, this is definitely all very new to my body!
Thanks Jaqs99, that makes total sense re my ribs, so I shall spare the husband a retaliation punch!
I'll keep posting as time permits, it seems like a very supportive forum indeed! Have great days all!
Welcome to the group and congratulations for getting started. One of the things you need to make part of your routine is a series of stretches after finishing a session (see pinned post on right) it really does help with the stiffness.
Welcome aboard. Really can't stress enough the importance of stretching properly after a run. It really does make the difference between an achy day after a run and a pain-free day. Very best of luck as you progress through the programme
