Achilles injury update after 7week lay off.

Ok....some of you may have seen my gripes about my Achilles tendon troubles over the last few weeks...

I had a week off running and went back into it as I would normally do, only to suffer awful pain in my Achilles on both legs. This diminished to only pain in my left ankle. I started stretching, as this was the recommended route on "the net" , to ease the stiffness.

After several weeks, this showed no sign of improvement. I had visited my gp and been given some ibruprofen gel to rub in,so not much help there. After posting on here I had a few comments back and decided to not stretch at all, as I never used to and a couple of comments back suggested that maybe this was just prolonging my agony.

Today, I went for my first run in nearly 8 weeks. I had a slight twinge for the first couple of minutes then I settled into a rythm and just got on with it..no further problems.

So.....maybe if your having Achilles pain, you may want to consider complete rest from all of the forces that stress and strain that area...ie no stretching either. I did and it worked for me....now to get back to running for 30 minutes again......

Thank you for that. I've been unable to run for the last week as my right achilles is really painful. It hurts to walk and the stairs are a nightmare! I've been making myself do eccentric heel drops having googled achilles injuries but they leave me in agony! I'm going to try just leaving it and seeing what happens. Impossible to rest it completely as have to work, look after kids etc., so I'm limping about but other than that I'll rest it as much as I can and hopefully I'll be running again soon too! Hope your running goes well and your achilles doesn't flare up again. I've been feeling like I'll never be able to run again so hearing that you've got through it has made me feel much more positive. Thank you :)
