Just got final info for 5k edinburgh in 8days Eek! In bold it says ' this is not a fun run or walk ' that's ok cos kinda knew that. Then said ' road races of these distances are a serious athletic undertaking' Does that mean I am a serious athlete? Goes onto say sweeper bus travelling 9mins per k and will pick you up if any slower. I thought cut off time was an hour. When I entered I said I could do it in approx 35 mins but unfortunately last month training and eating not gone to plan So ran the route this morning and took 44mins 16secs By far my slowest 5k. Help. Funnily enough really enjoyed it but will have to speed up cos I am NOT getting on that bus.

You'll be fine on the day. The adrenaline and the other competitors will give you a bit of a boost which will probably knock a good 4 mins off your time. I bet the route is going to be wonderful. Good luck and you've still got time for another run or two before the big gig in 8 days time.

Thanks dan I feel quite focused now The first 1/3 is quite steep, 2nd 1/3 flat and then all downhill to end so hope I can make up time then Glad I went out for dummy run today and at least I managed to run up hill all be it slowly

Shouldn't it be a tram instead of a bus! :)

Hope all goes well on the day, and I'm sure you'll be magnificent! :)

He he revruns

Good luck with the run. Will just suggest you try to keep a very straight face in case they think you're trying to be a fun runner! All joking apart though, enjoy! Best wishes.

Thanks fitmo I knew when I entered it wasn't going to be quite like parkrun or race for life which are mix of fast runners and people who are maybe exercising at a bit lower level but all enjoying themselves/ getting healthy / keeping fit . I entered this one cos a) it's local b) needed a focus after children's cancer run last week to stop me feeling flat and c) I wanted to stretch myself a bit . I think I just had slight panic when I saw all stuff in print . Anyway I promise you I will enjoy myself and I will run / plod round with a smile
