I think you should always be careful with chest pain. If I were you I'd get your GP to look at that as soon as you can, and not run in the meantime. I don't want to be alarmist, and I'm no medic, but it's always best to get these things checked.

The burning sensation in your throat can be avoided by breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.

I would recommend seeing your GP about chest pain of any sort though. Go and have a chat at the surgery just to be on the safe side. :)

It could be inflamed ribs, but I would seriously urge a chat with your doctor, better to be on the safe side

I get this too! And thats whats always stopped me from running in the past. Im 30 and just started onto wk 4 of the programme so I'm a total novice but this past few weeks i haven't had the pains.. All I've done is tried to breathe more slowly and less aggressively. Also people told me to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth but i still couldnt seem to get rid of the pain that way.. So I've been ind of breathing in through my mouth and nose at the same time and blow out through the mouth three times slowly.. Maybe this is no use but thought id say anyhow :)

Breathing through your mouth is easier said than done, especially when running. I can't do it, as I just can't seem to get enough air into into my lungs. I just breathe naturally now, to heck with it

I think burning throat is normal with over exertion. You get a dry mouth with all the heavy breathing going on. Maybe you have been running too fast. Try slowing it right down, as Laura says, to a steady jog, and then seeing how you get on.

Docs are your first port of call just to be safe! I used to get chest pain and had it checked out - it was fine but I still got the pain. Bought a shock absorber bra and no more problem. But don't take the risk! And as previously said you may just be pushing too hard to start

Definitely get checked by the doctor. Good luck and best wishes.

Sounds to me like over-exertion!

It's always best to get these things looked at. It probably is not anything to worry about though but it should set your mind at rest.

When one hasn't done any form of exercise in a time, it shows us how unfit we have become but a few wèks into the plan an the difference is night and day.

Really Important to check this out.

But also a question - when do you eat before running? When I first started the C25K I had not realised the need to not really eat before running and had pain/discomfort. I cannot run first thing without anything- the most I can eat is a ginger nut biscuit! Then OK. If I run at the end of the day, it has to be at least 4 hours after eating or else I am in a lot of discomfort - so practically, I run as soon as in from work and before dinner.

But again, and in agreement with other posts, really important to chat to GP before just thrashing on with it.

Ok burning throat is normal I used to get it coz I was so unfit and used to heave for breath but 2 things helped more water and breathing steady no matter how bad I wanted breathe faster. The chest pain I would go to the doc but I maybe that your running too fast xxx

Have you tried a really slow run to see if you get the same problem? It is a bit of an old chestnut, but true nonetheless, that new runners set off far too fast, then struggle to breathe! Slow right down to a very slow jog and see if it improves.

If it doesn't, then you must seek medical advice!

I'm a student and I'm doing a corse for being a sport teacher and we had to do a athletic skill training and , I had to run for at least a mile and when I was done I had this but I think it's normal depending on how fit you are if you want this to stop the easiest way is to do less then what you think you can do so you don't over do it and cause chest pain , but if you feel that the pain is really sharp you should see your GP
