A lovely run this evening - no speed just enjoyed it. the GPS didn't kick in until after the 10th minute so know I ran further. Anyway just wanted to let new people staring out. I couldn't run for 2 mins in January without stopping and now I just gayly plod on! Hope everybody is loving it too! Happy running!
The only place I would show this!!: A lovely run... - Couch to 5K
The only place I would show this!!
Well done Cazzer! Good run, and all those calories burned. You must be well chuffed
ahhh now i know what a garmin is !!
how nice to hear you enjoy your running, I think its going to be my new obcession
It gets you because it feels like the most natural thing in the world. The garmin will be your friend and your enemy!! Good luck!! x
Absolutely brilliant Carole! I'd like to be just like you when I grow up....ahem!...Graduate, that is!!
a) there are apps for phones that do this too
b) imagine if Forest Gump had a Garmin - he would max out the screen read out
I have used most apps but on a canal run and they do not work. Garmins' are handy for new runners wanting to calculate and improve but for likes Forest Gump - superfluous!
This info is interesting. I have never used an app because I am quite happy with the podcasts on an MP3 player. One day though I did decide to try an app just to find out what sort of distance I was doing. The app said I'd gone 4.9K which was totally wrong - working out my distance from the mileage around the lake where I run I knew, at that time, I was achieving no more than 2.5K, may pushing 3K on a really good session. I'll save up for a Garmin because this running lark is something I've stuck with. Good luck with your running and very best wishes.
Thanks Fitmo - they are worth it. Ebay is good a good place to start looking and youtube have some easy videos to show you what to do. I don't trust those apps after failing me so many times! Good luck Fitmo you are doing really well and great support here, from you and all x
I know it's a long time away but for at least the last 2 years Tesco have included Garmin in it's voucher promotion running up to Christmas. I.e. it doubles up the value of the vouchers so it costs half the price. I'm not sure but I have the feeling that their run up starts about 12 weeks before Christmas.
Thank you for this information - I am a regular Tesco shopper (have two large stores each about half a mile from my home but in opposite directions - can't escape them LOL!). I'll keep my eyes peeled for offers as this would work quite well for me. Cheers.
well done you thats a great distance to cover....and a great achievement since Jan too....well done!!
Thank you! I am really enjoying it all. The inspiration people like yourself provide on here is incredibly motivating. Although I do feel a bit of cheat as it is a straight run with no hills or traffic to overcome! Hay ho! I intend one day to cover the whole route of the Tiverton Grand Western and it was great getting to the next bridge! Sad but true! x
Hi Carol01... You must feel awesome after that! Well done!!!
S X
Ah thanks - not awesome - just chuffed that it feels that it is something you can do with all the training this programme teaches you. Hope you are getting on ok too! x
Its not sad. If it keeps you going, go for it! I just did my first 5k yesterday my aim is to run 2 miles on a specific road... One mile up a huge hill... One mile down. It's so steep I struggle to walk up it some days! We all need something to aim for.

That's brilliant ! Your garmin shows calories , mine doesn't it's forerunner 110 have I set it right ? It does only if I connect to my lap top but only on my uploads . Well done on your run .
Ah thank you. This is a forerunner 10 and it does this automatically after you save a run and check your history. I am not a gadget person so needed a point and press thing and this was the easiest to work. I got it cheaper on ebay too! Hope you are enjoying being back in the saddle! I still remember sound advice you gave me back in January and never run 2 days in a row now
Hi Rockette I have the F110 too and I get the same info as shown at the top of this thread. At the end of your run save it and then go into history/runs/today and all the info is there (but obviously you have to set up your weight etc in settings)
I have a garmin 205 that my husband bought years ago and never used. Do you think it will do the job or should I be getting myself a newer version? I use Map my run app on my phone but not sure how accurate it is.
i, I would give a try on a known 5k or parkrun and then at least you will find out its accuracy. I found Map my run to be very inaccurate and I have tried it many times- Once told me I was doing 3 minute Ks LOL I know the watch is correct as I have done as I suggested to you and was completely synced. Hope your 205 works I know it can be really frustrating when you are unsure of the distance and how much you have improved. Good luck!
Thanks! Maybe ill ask for a modern version for my 50th this year! I run on the Tiverton canal too - beautiful! I start at halberton lock and run to the next bridge and back - around 3 miles so just under 5 k but that includes the 5 min walk at beginning and end. I am aiming to do killerton park run on 17 may but really need to speed up first!
Wow you're not far away!! We are neighbours! I run from Waytown Tunnel and finally made it to Buckland Bridge Sampford Peverell last night and return to home Waytown tunnel. I was stuck at Holbrook bridge for while so chuffed I made it past 2 more bridges!! Killerton Parkrun? is that near us then? Nearer than Longrun Meadow Taunton? That a is really nice run every Saturday at 9.00 am just sometimes too early for me after a Friday night! Keep us posted on you canal route and improvements and you will love/hate the watch depending on your runs!!!!
