Just been on my week 1 first run. Found the cardio side of it fine but was getting pain in my shins. I found during the walking stages if I stopped and gave my shins a rub it helped but right shin worse than left. Any tips, apart from taking a few days off? I'm determined to stick with the timetable of the course.

Shin Pain
I had exactly same I was running in my normal nike trainers and daughter told me to go to running shop for gait analysis Advised what shoes to buy and have never looked back They made such a difference Not cheap but well worth it
You could try compression socks, compression leggings, or compression shin guards - they're meant to be helpful with circulation. Maybe try taking your running intervals a bit gentler too. Some soreness is to be expected but you shouldn't be in pain!
If you haven't done any running for some time then I think sore shins is pretty much the norm after W1R1. You should be fine to do W1R2 after a day or two's rest. Make sure you have proper running shoes though...
Cheers. That's what I'm hoping.
I was pretty fit when I did W1R1 and I still needed 2 days off after as my shins & ankles hurt like hell. An old pair of tennis shoes probably didnt help. If you are buying running shoes it is worth going to a specialist shop & getting your gait analysed. I went to SweatShop and they were great. They have lots of branches all over.
The other thing I found that helped me, following some advice on here, was to shorten my stride so I was landing better, so changing the way I loaded my leg muscles. Problem disappeared even before I got better shoes.
