Shin pain ???

I’ve only completed w1r2 but on both runs I’m getting terrible pain in my shins. Is this because I’m unfit and overweight and will stop naturally as I become a lean mean running machine or am I running ‘wrong ‘ ?? Please advise

Shoes! Have you got decent running shoes, don't run again till the pain has gone completely. (imho)

My knees really hurt in wk 2. Went to running shop and they had a look at me and my gait. Needed really supportive running shoes as I apparently ‘over pronate’! There was no pain afterward that.

Good luck!

Well done completing 2 runs, tons of information here.

Hydrate well, keep you feet landing flat and under your body, go slow and maybe try softer surfaces for a while. Hope this helps.

Interesting you say feet landing flat, my podcast says to land heel first to avoid injury🤔

Heel first is the best way to get injured... must be a mistake.

Ah, yes have done some reading , and quite honestly the jury seems to be out still. Have to say I have always heel- striked in my former running days, never had a prob. I did try forefoot running ended up unable to walk for a week ( had to hobble) with achilles tendonitis. Won't be trying thst again. Apologies to the OP, did not mean to hi-jack your thread.

Toe running takes some getting used to... works the muscles very hard!

From the reading I’ve done on biomechanics, heel first is the product of the shoe, not in the slightest natural (as I’ve confirmed at junior parkrun, not a single kid runs that way) and tends to straighten the knee, negating it’s shock absorption. Can’t heel strike and land your foot under you too.

Everything everyone else says! Plus, you maybe taking longer strides than you need to, leading to more heel strike. The over-works the muscle at the front of your shin plus is extra jarring on your joints. There’s a video on YouTube (that I can’t figure out how to share here but has been shared before): if you search quick feet or running shuffle you should find it. It’s by Tracy Hahn I think 👍

Hopefully by having the right shoes and running only very slowly you can crack it

Take two days rest if needs be 🙂

Being overweight is something you can address while you’re up and doing 😃👍🏃‍♀️ It’s good to eat healthy and sleep more, drink more water All will help you feel better 🙂

I had a serious shin splint and it’s horrendous. It’s all about strengthening our legs. Slow running does that and burns fat Win win 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️
