I know running in the evening can cause sleep problems but I always run mid-morning and yet I never get a good night's sleep after a run. Has anyone else found this? Any tips for getting round it? I thought running was meant to improve your sleep!

Does anyone else find running interrupts their sleep patterns?
It's strange isn't it ! I was the same when I was doing 5 ks. & over , was as high as a kite as well after them & it lasted most of the day . Be interesting to see if there's a remedy for when I get back to these distances , just the sleep bit though lol
As I get older, my sleeping becomes worse and worse . But now that I am running , it has become even worse!!!! I run early mornings - and generally have a "Poppy" nap in the afternoon . Maybe that is the problem?? I have to say that my brain has also been more stimulated since starting this - I have been treating this running as more of a hobby/interest than simply just "exercising" and I am finding the whole area to be quite intellectually exciting.
I have to be honest my sleeping has always been awful. I am finding it better with the running. I'm ready to go to bed already. Has anything else changed? are you stressed? Are you aching? I find if I'm achy I sometimes wake up to alter sleep position. ( I suffer back ache due to tension)

Hi, interesting question - I'm glad it's not just me! I'll be following the responses with interest
Well it's comforting to know I'm not alone in this, though I'm sorry to hear others have the same problem. I think you've made an interesting point though Bazza as I'm definitely finding that running is giving me a lot more to think about other than just the getting out there and doing it. I've been planning routes, looking at parkruns, thinking about technique, avidly following others experiences on the forum and on Facebook, and so on. Maybe it's stimulating a part of my brain that's not been used for a while (ever?). Perhaps I'll try not to think about running after a certain time of night and see what happens. And certainly no more going to bed with an Ordnance Survey map!
ive had the same thing im now running in mornings i think the body still on a high from the running
I have a couple of theories on this, on top of the ones mentioned. One that I drink a lot of water when I get in, in the evenings which keeps me awake until its, ahem, passed.
The other is that I overstuff myself cos I'm so hungry when i get in that my belly is too full to sleep! I need to do more to avoid the latter for sure
