Oh well - I thought I might give it a try - but I now find out that the World record for 5k's is 12:37.35
Forget it ! I'll never do it!!: Oh well - I... - Couch to 5K
Forget it ! I'll never do it!!

Scary, isn't it! So World records are not for all of us, but what's wrong with a bit of self improvement and nibbling away at our own Personal Bests. We can all do that.
Ok, so you can't run 5k in 12:37:35 but you could try for 50 or 60 minutes. When I was a fit 45 I use to run the coca cola 10k events in 44 minutes, but these days at 67 i'm aiming for 5k in 50 minutes. You can do it.

Hey, if I thought the same as you all those months ago I'd still be on my backside, lazing around, eating unhealthily and being generally unfit. However, I changed my mindset and forgot about anyone else. I decided to concentrate on me and began to improve myself. Five months on, I'm still not a world record holder loll, but I feel great. I feel fitter and healthier and enjoy running. I'm doing it for my personal benefit and setting my own PBs. Its a fantastic feeling when you break your own record - but ultimately for me its about improving my health.

Hahaha if only!!! I'm not competitive so for me I run for ME, its my running and I do my thing. I'm not sure if there are any potential word record runners on our forum but good luck to anyone trying. I can hold my hand up and say I have run that time but the distance was 2K not 5K

Actually I love that the World record is such a ridiculously short time. It makes me laugh.

I'm with bazza, 2k in twenty five mins on week seven and I think that was my fastest speed so far! Never mind. I can beat it next week. Anyone know the record if you're carrying six stone with you??
I don't care. Seven weeks ago I thought I couldn't manage three minutes. I sleep better, I feel happier, on run nights at least, and I get excited thinking about my next 'run' amazing. X
