Hey all, I just started with my C25K program yesterday. I covered 1.6 miles and burnt a 111 calories
I am overweight and asthmatic. But I am taking this up as a challenge, as I am tired of my asthma pulling me down. So my focus is going to be endurance more than speed.
Looking forward to interacting with all you guys Happy running!

Hi, good on you. I am asthmatic and so my biggest challenge is regulating my breathing. I am on week 4 and taking a rest as pulled my calf muscle on Saturday. Hope to resume tomorrow. I find my breathing gets harder in really cold weather, so try to breath through my nose more. Let. Me know how u go on and good luck with all the runs.
I am sure I read somewhere that asthma is helped by exercise ,well done for getting out there. I am on week 4 and never thought I would get past week 1! I'm 58 a couple f stone overweight and in a very stressful job!! It's been hard and some runs I really do not want to do but the achievement you feel is great. So well done and keep going...it's worth it
Hi, great to see your post, pot58! I'm going to start this soon, just need to get trainers! I'm 56, nearly 57, and asthmatic, inspired by c25k. Wanted to do it a while ago, but no support that I knew of then. This site is great, so watch this space!
Hi, congratulations on your first run. I just started with W1R1 on Saturday and, like you, I'm mostly doing it to try and take control of my asthmatic breathing when I'm exercising. I found the first two running segments really hard so I've got a very long way to go. But the running got a little bit easier as my lungs warmed up properly so I'm holding on to that positive thought for run 2 later today!
Good luck with the programme! I told a colleague about it a few months ago, (he has asthma) and when I saw him again for the first time since, just last week, he was raving about how much better he felt, and how he's so much fitter since doing it. So I'm sure you'll find, if you just persevere and go very slowly, that you will get through the plan and feel a lot better as a result. Keep us posted!
I think there are tips on here for running in really cold weather, to help those asthmatics on the forum. I think from what I've read that folks use a BUFF when it's really icy weather
Thank you so much for all your responses and encouragement I am thrilled, and it feels good to have people to share this experience with, people who are also in the same boat
My second run is tomorrow morning *fingers crossed* Will come back and post how it went!
Week 1, Day 2 today. It was pretty consistent with Day 1, just a littttle forward. 2.33 kms and burnt a 138 calories But the good thing is, I didn't wheeze as badly as I did on Day 1
Hey well done you that's great. You are on a journey now and I guarantee that if you carry on you will feel amazing. I was a 5 stone overweight, middle aged asthmatic when I started this program in October 2012 and I couldn't even do week one without gasping. Just over a year later (whilst still asthmatic and middle aged) I have lost weight and am running 30km a week, have entered five races this year and feel amazing. This programme changed my life and it can change yours if you stick to it. just keep going - it took me 4 months to complete it (not 9 weeks) but I did it in the end and now 5km is a doddle and a short run for me these days. You can do it. Good luck.
