Hi everyone. Does anyone else experience thigh muscle aches? Is this part of the process - have completed w1 and would like to know if it is wise to continue running if my leg muscle tweaks. Intention was to go out tomorrow after a 2 day rest.
Absolute beginner: muscle aches, any other w1 ... - Couch to 5K
Absolute beginner: muscle aches, any other w1 runners experiencing the same?
I had terrible muscle aches in week one. Turns out that I had been over striding and going way too fast. Maybe try slowing things down?
Thank you for your speedy reply, I will try to slow down a little - although I have the feeling I am going really slow, maybe I am not. So w2 here I come...
A few aches and pains are to be expected. Just take it nice and easy in the first few weeks-the speed and distance will come.
Everyone's body is different, you are probably working muscles that you haven't worked in a long time....just take it easy and listen to your body...but don't let the soreness hold you back...you got this!
Front of thighs? I get that even when not exercising. Hold the wall, kick towards your bum and hold your ankle - that stretches the offending muscles.
Well done for getting started. You are probably asking more of your body than before so it's bound to be in shock! As EBG says, make sure you are not over striding. Keep it nice and slow at this stage and don't skimp on those all important stretches at the end of your session.
Good luck!
First off - well done for doing this. You will benefit hugely from it. Secondly, leg pains are usual in the first two to three weeks, so don't worry. Usually after a two day rest you can get back out there. Make sure you stretch afterwards (mega important). I had legs pains for the first three weeks, then suddenly......none at all! Your body slowly gets used to the effort you're putting in. Good luck.
Thank you all for your support and reassurance. The sun is shining and I am about to set out on w2r1 - will be sure to stretch this time.
