for the first time my mind wandered off whilst running today into a contemplation zone (as opposed to thinking about breathing, falling over, looking like an idiot, not dying), and that is what I have been hoping for. It was hard work but achievable and I did feel at one point that my calf muscles wanted to burst out of my skin

Excellent. You remind me that I used to have to think about running, but three months after graduating it has become just a natural thing, which at times, when in the zone, is effortless, although often is not. C25k can help you to achieve running feats that you can not believe. This forum will supply you with support and motivation, should you need it.
Good luck. Keep running, keep smiling, keep posting.
That's impressive and bodes well for your future. I have only started to get to that place, occasionally, but it's great when it happens
Ah, a milestone! I lycraed up yesterday for the first run of 2014 and managed to run in beautiful sunshine. I had two comments: one from a chap who felt it was unfair to peddle past me twice and another from a chap who wondered why I was doing it. I realised that i was doing it because I WANTED to! I have found a nice rhythm in my running and I was happy in my own little world.
I need better music though as I had a "now that's NOT what I call music" thing going on. There are times when I miss 'Julie'. Geesus1, you may not have me her yet...
And hello to jason isaacs
I listened to a non music podcast today and it made a slight difference to my running as I was laughing at that instead of constantly thinking how slowly I was going. It was one of those Isaacs podcasts.
