Park Run?

Ok, I'm a newbie on here, just done R1W3. I don't live in UK now, having retired to sunnier climes. Just so I know what everybody is talking about, what is a park run? The world and their dog appear to be doing it, but I have no idea what that is. Please, could someone enlighten me?

A park run is a organised event held at weekends ( useually sat) I think & it is a 5k run around local parks starting at 9am . It's free , you have to register on line once only & u receive a barcode by email , you take this with you and when you finish you hand this to a Marshall at the finish line they scan it & later you get your finishing times . All ages & abilities it's a fun run . You can even walk round mine if you wanted . Don't know if what I've described is correct , because only just discovered them myself since I started this running lark , but that's basically what I've fathomed about them , hope it helps .

It's big in the UK but they do them internationally too.

Thanx Peeps, knew someone would know ! Looked at the Webb site, but unfortunately there isn't one in my neck of the woods., but at least I now know what you are all talking about.

Find a venue and some local runners and start your own. Parkrun will help you set it up.

Yeah thought of that, but when I tried they said that they were not setting up anymore international venues.
