Does anyone have any recommendations for a head torch for night time running? The streets in my village are pitch black in places!!!!

I'm currently running with a small hand held torch but it's annoying to carry. I've looked online and some head torches are £40+ Which is ridiculous!!! Any suggestions much appreciated! Xx

Hi gingy I'm in the same position as you, I run with an alpkit gamma head torch (online for around £15) it has two good settings for the front, a 'high beam' which I rarely use and a normal white light, which unless it's very rainy or foggy is fine to run by.

It also has a rear light too.

Mine didn't come with instructions, but holding down the buttons for different lengths of time, it became clear what setting was what.

My longest dark run is 50 mins and it does get a bit achy by then, but not unbearable..

I use an Alpkit Gamma too - love it! Very adjustable and bright.

My son swears by these Head torch / Head Lamp LED Super White Bright 0.5w ~ New Gelert Headtorch TOR328 off ebay for £4.99. He uses them for running at 10pm round our village with no street lights and for festivals, gigs. In fact he carries it with him all the time. He has tried several but likes this one the best. Make sure you wear high viz clothing as well. I bought him snap on wrist bands too.

Both of use use Alpkit Gammas too. I am the local Scout group quartermnaster, and we are going to buy some of these for the Scouts too.

No instructions included, but holding down the buttons for 3(?) seconds changes the mode. Big bright light, dimmer main light, small white LED, red LED and green LED. Apparently, the green is really good for fog. I believe that there is a tutorial on Youtube.

Our son uses a Silva X-Trail which is far more expensive, but REALLY good, and some people I know use the Petzl Nao, which is both eye-wateringly good and expensive in equal measure.

I just bought one in TK Maxx for £2.99 which included 3 AAA batteries. It's a bit heavy but does the trick, LED, lights up the way and has 4 settings. They had several choices of headlamps too.
