Pride comes before a fall :-(

It was my first run today after the 5K twilight run on Friday after which I felt the sky was the limit. I decided to repeat Week 4 run 3 as I had pushed myself further than Laura advised two days ago but despite the 'easy' task I really struggled. The first three minute run left me totally breathless and the wind in my face didn't help. I did seem to get into a (slow) rhythm over the five minute runs and they felt slightly easier. However my overall time was pathetically slow and my ancient knees and especially my hips were aching quite badly by the end. I think I may have overdone it by attempting 5K so soon. Just hope my joints will recover. I will follow the programme religiously from now on. I've learned my lesson!

Dont let it get you down. You are doing so well! I find if I really push myself, I notice a knock on effect for the next run or two. Take an extra rest day, let your body recover from your amazing achievement and then try again. You can do it, you have proven that already :) sending you happy running vibes! :)

Thank you nextjenn. I think you're quite right. I need to rest and take care of my joints. After all, some people are having hip replacements at my age! I will try a bit of yoga for the next two days and maybe stick on week 4 a bit longer even though I have in theory completed it . I don't like failing, but I won't throw in the towel. Thanks for the encouragement and happy vibes :-)

No problem :) sounds like a good plan to me. No harm in doing extra days. I know I have done many times. Good luck :)

That wind out there this morning was a right doozy, it was definitely hard work running against it, so don't put yourself down. Another thing, I find running too slowly makes my hips ache, so that probably wouldn't have helped you. Have a couple of rest days then carry on where you left off. Keep going, you're doing well.
