yup

It's basically interval training. In it's simplest form it's a normal paced run during which you have short 1minute burst interval at a faster pace, then back down to normal pace to recover for 1minute, and repeat the fast pace bursts again and again - it's a way of getting your fitness up and also increasing your speed base.

If you fancy trying it out, why not have a go at the 5k+ Speed podcast - that is quite a good introduction to it and Laura guides you every step of the way as usual.

Fartlek is a bit different to intervals. Literally translated from Swedish it means "speed play". It's about going out with no structure and just doing what you fancy, involving bursts of different speeds of running, rather than predetermined intervals.
