W9R2 - the fun run.

So, I got persuaded to take part in the company fun run, an event I have been avoiding like a trip to the dentists. Nothing personal about dentists, mine is a stunning young Spanish lady with lovely dark eyes. Well worth £50 to stare into those for 20 minutes. I digress.

The run is 'about 3.5 miles', which is pushing 5K a bit. I will do W8R2 tomorrow, the fun run will be W9R2. So, I think I can cope with all of that, it's just a little further I have two little niggles, and I think these are because I am superstitious creature of habit;

1) The fun run is in the afternoon. I always run in the morning with an empty stomach, this will be after a day of munching, and possibly sunny. Personally praying for rain, at least that will be cool, and at the moment more likely. So, what to eat during the day I wonder, and how long to leave after last munchings?

2) The 'warm up walk'. Now I don't profess to be cool, fashionable, or anybodies role model. I am also in my forties so to be honest I don't really give a monkey's about what other people think too much. But this is my first fun run. Somehow, "On your marks, get set, go" and then a brisk walk out of the car park is just not going to cut it. So any suggestions on how to have a subtle warm up, and still look like I know what I am doing?

Any advice appreciated. Oh, and ducking out is not an option, I have paid a tenner to charity to do this!

Hi Nerdio, I've read you should leave about 1hr to 1h30 between your last meal and your run. I stick to this and so far so good. I've not had any cramps or felt like I had no energy.

As for a warm up, perhaps some jogging on the spot in the loo beforehand? Or some star jumps in a similarly private spot? Not very helpful I know, don't really know what else to suggest.

Park down the road rather than in the car park and 5 minute walk to get there? But don't get there too early or you'll have cooled down. If it's an all day thing take yourself for a walk round the car park 10 minutes or so before the off.

Have been out of the loop for a day or so, so not had a chance to say thanks for your answers.

I think some secluded running on the spot in a toilet cubicle is the best I am going to manage, and definitely lay off the food for a couple of hours before. (Had a lousy W8R3 run this morning, after a night out at a restaurant with friends. Excellent meal, and a couple of pints after was weighing a little heavy still this morning).

Thanks again.
