Why am I avoiding WK5?

Didn't run for about 10 days a couple of weeks ago so returned to do Wk4. I am reluctant well actually avoiding to proceed to week 5. Why?? I just don't know, am I scared of failing? I have done Wk4 3 times now, not a big struggle but ok really. Anyone else experienced this avoidance?

If you've completed week 4, you CAN do week 5... So...

Good luck!

You'll find week 5 much easier than you expect, just trust the programme and that each stage prepares you for the next. Look back at what you have achieved, it's amazing already and only gets better. Go for it, you can do it!

Go immediately to week 5. Do not pass GO. Do not collect £200!!

Seriously though. Your body is ready. Just tell your mind. Go for it, as Laura says.

I know exactly how you feel - mentally it feels a huge block to move to week 5. I had loads of encouragement from here about how you are really ready to do it and like you I'm scared of failing (only done W5R1 so far) but someone pointed out that nowhere does it say that you have to complete it first time - you've done W4 several times so if you have to repeat some runs on W5 it really doesn't matter. And if, as you say, you've not found it a struggle, you'll definitely be more than ready for W5!

I set off for W5R1 yesterday and really enjoyed the 5 minute runs, found I really got into a stride and felt like I could carry on to the point that I'm actually looking forward to W5R2 tomorrow. This might not seem like much to a lot of people, but I'm overweight, unfit and never in my wildest dreams would have thought I could run 3 minutes in one stretch, let alone looking forward to doing 8. So if I can do it you certainly can! Laura encourages you just at the exact times you need it, I really think you should just go for it and you'll totally surprise yourself. Let us know how you get on :)

Yes I have experienced this too, with week 6 - which I felt it was a bit of a wall for me, but it's a good idea to crack on before you just get bored with the programme. To be truthful, I didn't like the first podcast for w5 - the run was easy, but I didn't like the wording, but that's just my opinion. Best just get it over with....you'll feel better when you do.... good luck, happy running!

Hi bess. Ive just completed week 5 so perhaps my experience might be helpful.

I hadnt previously looked ahead until week 5 and had just followed instructions each time.

There wasnt the time to think about it, just to get on with running and this really worked.

Run 3 was the first time I looked ahead which is the 20 minuter.

I started to read the blogs for advice and probably spent too much time doing so.

Then on Sunday someone blogged about getting a run completed before fathers day lunch and I realised I was just putting it off so I grabbed the running gear and got on with it.

Run 3 is still only 30 minutes of exercise and 10 of these are walking.

Laura does help as does the music (I found tracks 1 and 4 helped me run faster) but the main thing is not to give up.

So I would say, dont think about it and just get out there.

To quote Laura, if you find it hard, slow it down a little, just dont stop...

Just done W5R1 after avoidance tactics for best part of a week, think it's actually easier then week 4, the initial 5min run seemed to last for ever but the other 2 were fine, it's actually less total running and longer rests then week 4.
