Can anyone explain the logic of week 5 to me? I did my first run this morning but am a bit nervous about the rest of the week.

I remember being very worried about week 5. In fact, I worked myself into a bit of a Tiz about most weeks...

Anyhoo, it's really not as bad as you might think. You can do it and you will be so proud of yourself when you do!

Thanks Tuffers!

Week 5 is achievable. It's a mental hurdle more than a physical (it is physical as well of course), and it really does not matter if you don't do it first time around. Read some of the blogs though, and you will see that you are not alone in how you feel about it. (I did W5R3 this morning, and really wasn't sure if I would do it, but I did).

:) Thanks for the encouragement.

I felt exactly the same about the massive jump in week 5 but as others have said it's purely a mental thing as you are more than fit enough to jog for the longer amount of time. I too worked myself into a bit of a worry about it but then when it happened and i achieved it i was so chuffed with myself and the penny finally dropped that it it's definitely a mind over matter thing and your body is more than prepared to go further.

You'll do it. I just know it. Just keep thinking positively. :)

Trust Laura. She is magic. :) I didn't sleep the night before the first 20min run I was so worried. Managed it first time. You need masses of will power and don't be afraid to slow down if your struggling - just don't stop.

I have been calling Laura my running guru. I guess I should trust her more :)

Thank you!

Just take it slowly that would be my advice. I failed at my first attempt went off too fast! You can do it. Good Luck

I can't explain the logic, but it does work. I fretted about 5/3 because I'd found the much shorter run 5/2 quite tiring, however, I slowed my pace a little and managed it first time. You do sort of settle into it after a short time, and once you've found your rhythm you'll be OK.

I've just done week 5 run 1, and I'm also feeling apprehensive about run 3. Today was fine but the thought of a full 20 mins on Friday is daunting. Really proud to have come this far and to be finding 5 minutes easy though (especially thining back to how I nearly died after the very first run in week 1), and you should be too! I'm sure we'll manage it :)

Hi, I've just completed my first run of week 7 - at the beginning of week 5 I NEVER thought I could get to week 7. As others have said, it's about week 5/6 that you realise that it's just as much mental strength as physical. You will do it - if I can, anyone can! And you will have such a buzz afterwards. Just keep going.

Don't fret too much about it, just watch your pace and trust that your body is ready for it even if your mind needs a little push.

I don't know that ther IS any logic but there must be a reason because it DOES WORK. Don't fret about it just slow down and TRUST LAURA. Good luck you CAN do it. If I can anybody can.

Thank you for the amazing support! I did the second run of week 5 today and it felt really good. The encouragement will certainly help with the big one! :)

I DID IT!!! 20 minutes! Thank you for all the wonderful advice!

I should have done W5R3 twelve days ago but not able to get out just now. This blog site is amazing for support and encouragement. A HUGE thank you to all the bloggers for keeping us all inspired (even when some of us are not able to do much!)
