I have heard that people do sit-ups before a jogging session. Does anyone do this and how does it help? Thank you

Do sit-ups before session help?

I wouldn't see that they help just before a run. However a strong core definitely helps your running so would be good to do other exercise on non-running days, some of which would include core strengthening and ab work.
If you want to do something before a run then warm up and do some gentle stretches but only stretch leg muscles after warming them up otherwise you could do damage.
Most however find the 5 min walk alone is enough before a run.
Hope this helps.

I agree. I do sit-ups, among other exercises, on the days I don't run, but the warm-up walk before a run is plenty for me.
Many thanks to you both for your answers I want to get more fit so will see if I can plan sit ups in my off days with other core work.
I started doing sit ups before my runs to help to prevent stitches, as well as stretching the muscles in my waist. I have noticed that I only suffer from bad stitches when I've forgotten to do the sit ups and the stretches, but this is hardly scientific! They can't hurt can they?
This blog had some interesting info about the cause of stitches and breathing, which may help ( couchto5k.healthunlocked.co... )
