Is it possible to go running in Thailand, do you think? I will be heading out there for 6 weeks in July and I would love to be able to keep the running up, but people just laugh at me and tell me it will be far too hot and humid to even contemplate running. I just don't want to fall out of the habit now that I am getting into it...

I'm in a very hot and humid country and you can definitely continue running, but it's important to keep yourself hydrated at all times. Of course, I drink lots of water during and after my run but, more importantly, I drink loads of water throughout the whole day too.

Also, plan on running early in the morning (5am-7am, before the sun gets too hot) or after sunset and slow down your pace. Your body just won't be able to go as fast in the humidity. Have fun, it sounds beautiful!

there are gyms .... it is so hot and humid it is very hard to run, so you really do need air con.. it depends on your constitution of course, and i love the heat myself, but still it made me feel so heavy cause of the humidity.... where are you going, i live on joh samui for half the year... there are a few gyms there... and a very very very wonderful health place! if you are on a health boost, google spa samui..... fab!

I run in the Middle East and weather is averaging 35 degrees at the min. It is possible. Just be sensible. Twice I've nearly fainted so make sure you eat well, are properly hydrated and choose a cooler part of the day. Those are the lessons I've learned. Good luck ;-)

It happens to the best of us! Sounds like you're still motivated to keep running though, which should help you get past that 30 minute "struggle" soon. I always find that if I've finished 15 or 20 minutes and am lagging, I tell myself, "Just try 5 minutes more..." until I reach my goal, and I usually get there.

I remember when I used to run on and off years ago, I'd go on vacation for a week and then completely forget about running when I returned. Now when I'm on vacation, I find myself counting down the days until I can run again. Funny how that's worked! And congratulations on graduating!

i think i am defeating myself with the thought of a long run, so yes will just aim for five more mins, then another five, and gently kid myself into doing it.. i am sure my body can... it is the mind that is a little pathetic! thanks x

Ps I got to w8r2 and also bailed for two weeks. A combination of a long haul flight, holiday, then a cold and parent taking ill meant it was 2 weeks before I finally got back out tonight. Keep focused. Only a couple of runs left :-)
