this is another forum here for people with all kinds of lung diseases and has many more members than this forum so if you also post on it you will likely get far more replies.
Do you know what stage of COPD you have? Obviously if you smoke you need to quit. Exercise is one of the best things you can do and if you can get into a pulmonary rehab program they are usually very beneficial. Try to eat nutriously and maintain a healthy weight. Get vaccinated as if you get any lung infections they can do further damage to your lungs so trying to prevent getting infections is important.
I have been diagnosed but not had any tests so do not know which stage i am at. Started on holiday in France we visited some caves and i think the sulphur triggered it. Finished up in hospital had loads of tests nothing found, they gave me some medication which got me well enough to get home (driving). Took a turn for the worse again went to my doctor referred to the Same Day Emergency Clinic had another load of tests again discharged nothing found with an urgent referral to the Respiratory Clinic Appointment next September (2024) and urgent referral to the Cardio Clinic no appointment as yet. Next thing i have an appointment with my doctors for my annual COPD review. They were shocked that i am been treated for COPD without having confirmation from a consultant. I am also now Pre Diabetic so attempting to eat healthier and be more drink aware. I stopped smoking 41 years ago.
Did you get maintenance inhalers or rescue inhalers or both? The ones for maintenance have to be taken every day or twice a day and you do not see instant results. But after a few weeks they start to improve your breathing. If you do not take them as prescribed then you will not get the benefit. The rescue inhalers are only to be used for fast relief, like within 10 minutes. If you look online there are COPD exercises that will help you with breathing or see if you can get into pulmonary rehab where they teach you those.
I have Anora taken once a day plus Ventolin as and when needed. Not too sure which type they are very new to this.
If you are looking for a community and/or live support group, Right2Breathe hosts a zoom meeting 3X per month. There is typically an expert who presents on a topic related to living with lung disease, then there is Q&A time, and general discussion.
The meeting is held at 4:30 PM New York Time (Eastern Standard Time in the US).
