I don't have any first hand experience of what your husband has been offered, but my gut feeling is to accept what they are offering, it can't do any harm. At the least you and your husband will be able to talk to someone qualified and be re-assured.
I have heard wonderful things about palliative care. By all means, especially if his physician has recommended it, to take advantage of this program. Remember that he can withdraw at anytime.....you have nothing to lose and everything to gain in my opinion.John
I have not yet needed palliative care, but I also belong to a few lung cancer groups. From what I have read, Palliative care can be very helpful. You are free to enter and leave the program as you wish. I agree with the others, take the help.
Let me echo what R2B_John offered, and confirm that you're on the right track. As part of the Right2Breathe team, I am also a registered nurse, working for a nonprofit Hospice and Palliative Care organization. Palliative Care provides resources for focused symptom management, comprehensive assessment of any other health issues that have an impact on activities of daily living, and support emphasizing maximize wellness. While many Palliative Care teams have plenty of Hospice experience, which focuses on end of life care, there is absolutely no pressure to go in that direction, and as John said, you can discharge yourself from the program at any time. It's a great program. I hope you check it out!
P.S. - They can also help address your husband's anxiety.
