Hi All, been prescribed Symbicort as other steroids didn't agree with me... Been given the Symbicort Turbohaler at the dose of 100/6... However, I've looked at a few places and it says that this dose is for asthma? However, I have Asthma/COPD issues (just not been properly diagnosed with anything yet dud to can't go for tests) has anyone been given the 100/6 one for COPD issues as well? And has it been effective? Any side effects too etc?

Hi Ami40

I have asthma and mild COPD and use Symbicort 400/12 (2 puffs twice daily) I also use Spiriva inhalation capsules every morning. It works well for me. Perhaps you could check with your GP about a stronger Symbicort if the current one doesn't work for you. Unfortunately, I have developed very sensitive thin skin due to the steroids.

Good luck

The 100, 200, and 400/6 versions all seem to be approved for both asthma and COPD. There may be a reason your physician prescribed what he has for you. Sounds like a great conversation to ask him/her. You certainly want a dosage that will wok best, but remember that more isn't always better.

Thanks I will do, it's difficult getting an appointment at times though. I've just had this Symbicort but can't even really tell if I've had a dose? Don't really want to take another? Any ideas?

If its just a question about dosage and/or strength, you might be able to have that answered by calling the doctor's office rather than a whole appointment.

Regarding your dose today, I personally woyld never suggest taking double the prescribed amount to "make sure".

Makes sense the doctor would try you on a lower dose to start with to see how you tolerate it. Make sure you follow the dose directions which should be use it twice a day. It may take a few days to feel a difference. But if you don't follow the directions then its not going to work right

Hi Jocopd, I have been on Symbacort 200/6 2 puffs daily for approx 3 years, I have COPD Emphasima diagnosed 3 years ago and on oxygen 24/7 I had a respiratory nurse out to my home 6 months ago who told me I wasn't using the inhaler correctly I should take a normal breath in, cover the mouthpiece of the Aero Inhaler and breath out slowly, continuing to breath into the inhaler 4-5 times before breathing out and repeat. I found this made a big difference to my breathing. I hope this was helpful if it's the same inhaler. Good luck
