Hi I've just had the results of s resent chest x-ray. It says lungs clear then says background COPD I don't understand what background COPD means if my lungs are clear. Does anyone know what this means?

I am supposing it means that although the lungs are clear, "background" means that signs of COPD are present such as hyper-inflation of your lungs or possibly some damage. A diagnosis of COPD should include a Pulmonary Function Test (spirometry).
I hope you are going to see a pulmonary physician for some answers.
I think that means there are signs of copd. Talk to your doctor, maybe look into making an appointment to see a pulmonologist?
From my experience they are looking for things like pneumonia or infection. If they are clear there is no sign of infection but as R2B_John mentioned they can see signs of COPD such as hyperinflation of the lungs.
