We were having a chat over on the asthma forum about counters on inhalers. During the course of that and during my searches I found out something important I didn’t know, so I thought I’d better post it here in case there are people here who are also unaware. Please forgive the dramatic title but I wanted to draw your attention.

I have been using my blue inhaler until it ran out. Or so I thought. Wrong.

If your inhaler contains 200 hundred doses it will dispense them but following that it will continue puffing but this is only propellant.

I had noticed that when my inhaler was running out it did not have as much effect as a new one. Now I know why.

This does not just apply to your blue inhaler but to any inhaler. ( I had also noticed that my Fostair inhaler had ‘doses’ left in even though the counter said it was empty. These ‘extra’ doses are also just propellant.

Just so you are aware. 😊

Troilus, Thank you for posting this! This is very important and why many inhalers have dose counters now.

Hi Michele,

This is what we were Taligent about. In the USA even their Ventolin inhalers Harv counters. I wish we would do the same.

I find it tastes different when mostly propellant but fostair was told use a new one at 3 doses left as the last 3 are less than full doses
