According to the National Institutes of Health, researchers have identified a new type of stem cell. This stem cell produces new critical ways to support the function of alveoli or air sacs, which inflate and deflate, allowing the lung to exchange gas.bioinformant.com/stem-cell-...

It is very expensive. Any published results I have seen are based on questionnaire, not measurements of increased capacities. If you spend a lot for something you are highly likely to like it.

For many years it was considered "snake oil" and the cost is prob why most people didn't talk about it - they were ashamed the blew that much money on something that didn't work. In some cases over $10,000. However now, the legit research places are testing stem cell - this is a quote -

"You may hear about stem cell therapy clinics that claim to treat or cure COPD, but steer clear of them for now. “Don’t go to any facility that offers you bone marrow or stem cell transplant therapy for COPD. Is there hope for stem cell therapy for COPD? Absolutely. There are two or three clinical trials going on now that are awaiting results,” he says.

That sounds promising even though it may be years away lets hope not to many years away

They are always saying such "encouraging" drivel such as "perhaps in 15 or 20 years with more research..." YEAH, RIGHT! If they stall long enough we'll all be 6 feet under and out of their hair.

Brompton hospital said at least 5-10 years before human trials are undertaken, surely that's encouraging

Except they were saying the SAME THING 5, 10 and 15 years ago!
