Lung nodules

Hi is lung nodules a common component of emphysima. Should I ask for scan

Sometimes lung nodules are left after an exacerbation. I have several. One deep one is being monitored for cancer (even tho it's been there for years). The monitoring consists of CT scans every six months after an initial PET scan.

Thank you I had x-ray but have never had a ct scan

As your doctor about a ct scan, it can't hurt to get one because an x-ray can miss things.

I had a chest ct a few months ago and an 8mm nodule was found. I also was diagnosed with copd from that ct. My nodule is just being watched with a 90 day repeat ct scan. From what I have read I guess many people have nodules that are not harmful.

Did the radiologist suggest a follow up ct? If not, for peace of mind, you can ask your Dr. about getting a ct.

In the US low dose cat scans (ldcs)are covered by medicare free if you have a history of smoking. Almost all copd patients have lung nodules. Medicare advises once a year re scans to keep an eye on growth of nodule. Not sure I understand why you are asking if you should have a scan when you cannot know if you have them without a scan. The ldcs takes less than 5 minutes, is not invasive and uses a lot less radiation than a full cat scan and shows just as much.
