Fluid on lung

Hi all hope this finds you well. After a CT scan my mom has seen a respiratory consultant who recommends she has a sample of fluid removed from her right lung to see what is causing her to have repeated chest infections because of her COPD pneumonia and fluid retention which makes her legs swell and leaves awful blisters. Has anyone had this done and is it a painful procedure? He has given mom the choice as to whether to have this done to find out what is causing these repeated infections or if it is something more sinister!! I am wondering if it is worth putting her through more procedures as she has had a traumatic 18 months. Regards Jan x

It might be a good idea, the test didn't hurt me, they give you drugs that makes you sleep, and it may show what's causing her infection, and what antibiotics they need to give her to get rid of it all together
