My dad was just diagnosed with early stage copd and some problems with the right side of his heart.

Hi Bridgetioio; Sorry to hear about your dad. If he smokes he needs to stop sooner then later. Make sure he stays active doing as much exercise as he can and drink lots of water. Wash his hands often. I'm guessing he has what they call sistolic which effects the right side of the heart. I have what the call Distolic which causes heart failure buy making the muscles go stiff and enlarge and can't push the blood very well.

Is your doctor on any inhalers for his copd?

Welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. He's blessed to have you looking after him & gathering all the information about copd that you can. You came to the right place. I'm rather new here too but I've gleaned a wealth of knowledge already. I've learned that the most important things are to not ever smoke again, exercise as much as you can & drink a lot of water.
