Hi I'm Fiona, I was diagnosed with mild COPD at the beginning of the year, after three consecutive bouts of pneumonia. My consultant said it would get better. I thought COPD was irreversible. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Mild COPD
Copd will never go away. But if you stay on your inhalers it will feel better quitting smoking will make it progress slower. And youll be able to breath better. Im trying to quit smoking. Ive been using a vaporizer. Its helped me to cut down alot i was diagnosed with chronic bronchidis in March of 2009. And heart failure. And ive never had to go to the hospital with any kind of copd attack. Did you get the pnemonia shot?
Hi Pegstags, thank you so much for your reply. Yes, I did get the pneumonia shot & the flu one.
Hi Fiona, I was diagnosed with COPD 11 years ago and I have had twobouts with walking pneumonia as well with chronic bronchitis that was so bad my left lung collapsed however I was never placed in the hospital because I really didn't realize I had pneumonia, and basically I could breathe so I'm not on oxygen, those two episodes with pneumonia and bronchitis left mewith multiple fracture ribs and scarred lungs, the doctor tells me it's a miracle that I'm not on oxygen. I am 61 years old stop smoking the moment they told me that I had COPD after being a chronic smoker for 40 years, I try to exercise as much as possible as well as go on long walks, also dealing with osteoporosis and pain it's no fun. COPD is a progressive disease you need to get to a computer and research as much as possible, please try to stay healthy. I have a couple of Associates better living with COPD and a couple of them ended up with cancer so you need to do a lot of research because our bodies are all different and it affects some of us different. God bless and thank you for allowing me to share
Hello ruth410, thank you for taking the time to reply. I will do some more intensive research. I think I have been in denial since my diagnosis!

Hello Muustangman, thank you for taking the time to reply to me, & sharing your very scary story. I will take on board everything you have told me. Like you, I have been in denial for about 5 months, thinking it couldn't happen to me. Six weeks ago I started to make the changes you suggest in your reply & hopefully I will stay well.
Copd is not irreversible, asthma is. Are you seeing a pulmonary doctor, if not you need to they are trained for diseases of the lungs where others doctors don't have the same amount of training. Drink lots of water as this will keep the mucus thinned and exercise as much as you can, doctor tells me this will keep the lungs strong.
I was diagnosed with Copd, by my regular internist, but I have had all the pulmonary tests and my pulmonologist said I don't have COPD. I do use inhalers, and I also have a machine that dispenses albuterol, through my mask. I am thrown into a breathing attack when the weather is hot and/or humid, I am exposed to caustic chemicals, pollen, and dust. Yes, I have smoked off and on for 40+ years. If I can maintain a calm, the attack will subside.
I just heard blowing up balloons, using a nebulizer and deep breathing exercises all help strengthen our lungs. We won't be cured, but will be able to live a better quality of life
