Hello, I am new here. I have logged in a few times and read some of the posts. I was diagnosed with COPD almost a year ago and am still trying to learn about the symptoms and treatments. I will turn 60 in March and have smoked most of my life. I am trying very hard to quit, I'm down to just a couple a day. Needless to say, I'm still scared of not knowing what to expect.

Copd never goes away. But if you quit smoking it progresses slower. Ive been using a vaporizer-an e cig and its helped me cut down alot! Your doing really good to only be smoking 2 cigs a day! The symptoms are a couph, running out of brearh quicker, couphing up phlem. You could end up on oxygen because of the low oxygen in your blood. You could end up with emphisema. oh and be congested alot. I was diagnosed with mild copd-chronic bronchidis and heart failure in march of 2009. I had no breathing problems because of my lungs then. Im noticing breathing problems now. And i have rasping in my chest sometimes. And ive smoked for 38 years. im 53 years old. Its really hard to quit. But i have to quit. I dont want to end up on oxygen thank god for the new ecigs. Ive noticed with smoking less and less cigs that im not congested. And not as much rasping in my chest. Good luck to you!
My mom was able to cut down to three smokes per day. She lived to 76. COPD sucks. She always knew when her four hours was up for her inhalers. I also have COPD. The best thing she told me was to breathe through your nose and out through your mouth and try not to panic. I'm still on a pack per day. I did better on the electronic ciggerette
