I had a precancerous polyp removed in October 2023, will be doing another colonoscopy in October 2024. I’m just wondering whether from October till now is 4 months, will the polyp come back or cause any discomfort to the colon/ stomach during these 4 months?

can someone able to say something.

I’m just feeling worried because these few months I felt gassy in the stomach.

Hi Mondlee,

My issues ... I had stage 4 colon cancer which we were able to beat👍. I also have lynch syndrome which is a hereditary condition where my immune system doesn’t recognize cancer. My surveillance is to have an annua l colonoscopy, a CT scan and blood work. It’s my understanding these polyps are very slow growing but catching them early is key. My oncologist told be the tumor they took out of me in 2012 was a polyp in 2006😲🤔. I never had a colonoscopy before I was diagnosed. I share this to say I am a good candidate for recurrence and get watched rather closely. From what I see, annual surveillance is a lot but justified given certain situations. I certainly need it.

I would think you are in good shape being checked in a year. If all clear with no concerns showing, it may move out to 2 years. But by all means, do bring it up at to your gastroenterologist at your appointment time, or give them a call and I’m sure one of the NP will discuss it with you. Do you have any hereditary issues with disease going on?

FYI … I used to get them more often during the year, but that was due to being under therapy (clinical trial) and the doctors needed to get feedback sooner to update the situation and adjust as necessary. But now being considered NED (No Evidence of Disease), I get the annual check as given the slow growing nature of these polyps. It will catch things early. I have had polyps removed some years and some show nothing at all. The polyps removed were not cancerous👏👍😁. I’m still annual and probably will be for life.

I wish you all the best. Please don’t be worried about the polyp. I wouldn’t think a polyp would be an issue so soon after you first colonoscopy. But again, if it would make you feel better, contact the NP at the gastro office and talk about it❤️👍. They know your medical history.

Thank you,

So glad you replied, I know your story. Thank you Tom.

Yup I’m going for an annual colonoscopy to keep everything in check, a precancerous polyp did scare me in October . Everything is alright but recently I felt a lot of gas and feeling fluctuations a lot and sometimes wanna poop so you know, our mindset or mentally will always think back so I’m wondering will anything happen after just 4 months of colonoscopy. Sigh, we humans or me will think a lot

Hi Mondlee. I had a precancerous polyp removed 2020, but I was instructed by my specialist to have a colonoscopy in 3 month time, then 1 year time. Now I have to do it every 3 year. The specialist removed some tissue during the 2nd coloscopy and he said those ones are very small (in mm) but will grow bigger if I leave them in the stomach for few years and they are not cancer yet. I heard it will take a few years from a polyp to become cancerous, so yearly or every 3,5-year check (If all clear before) should be enough.

Regarding gassy stomach, did you try to reduce the intake which creates gas in your tummy? Low fodmap diet might help. Also, it could be IBS, haemorrhoids or constipation that cause it. I take fibre supplement everyday with lots of water
