I have found some blood in stool. I had a postive Qfit Test but just postive at 14. My GP said he was not overly concerned. I have an external hemorrid. I was referred and saw a Gastronelogist today he did a rectal exam and said there was not concerning. I did tell him that I was concerned of bowel cancer he said that is why I had been referred. I asked him before I left the consultation room did they think there was anything sinster and he said now. So I found him to be contradictory in what he was saying. So I am just hoping what the GP said to be some degree of reassurance. I am going for a sigmoidoscopy in 10 days time. Hoping everything is ok.

Blood in Stool
Hi, I was like you last year. Blood on stool for months in and off. . Blood test fine no FIT test as GP said it would come back positive with having blood on stool. Sent for sigmoidoscopy. All fine except for internal heamroid and slight signs of diverticulosis which was normal for my age. I was 53 yrs then, female. My guess is that what they will find. Most bowel cancer s start in the sigmoid colon aswell. The procedure was fine, no pain at all , I watched it. Lasts about 15 mins.
The prep is also ok. I mixed dilute orange in it and broke it into 4 drinks in the hour. You have to drink a litre of prep in a hour then do the same later in the Day. I drank lucazade drinks in between to keep me hydrated and had a Bovril drink to tell my mind I was having something savoury, 🙂. So please try not to worry, easy said I know. You are getting the right course of treatment and take it one step at a time.
Thank you. I did also have a colonscopy 18 months ago and everything was fine then. I have been told that usually it takes about 5/10 years for develop. Can I ask did you have much blood in your stool. I am taking some reassurance as my GP said I was not concerned.
Hi, no just on the sides of the stool and on the toilet paper. It was uncomfortable after a bowel movements, obviously the heamroid being the cause. You could have a internal fissure that can cause more blood after a bowel movements. GP correct about Cancer developing over the long period. I think you wil be ok and it's something simple like heamroid, fissure or could be IBS, this can cause blood on stool too.
When I was diagnosed, I was already stage 4. No blood symptoms. Abdominal pain after I ate a large meal, so I quit eating large meals. I had an abdominal lump for years that all of the sudden turned tender to the touch. At my annual physical I told the dr. about it and he said let's get it checked out. 2 days later I had my first CT scan. 2 days after that I was standing in front of a surgeon. Things move very fast from there.
I'll never forget my oncologist saying "you know, that tumor we took out of you in 2012 was a polyp in 2006." Your are correct. It is slow, but you have to catch it early enough before it becomes a fight. Mine was immediately a fight.
I think you are on the right path and you'll get some good answers from the sigmoid you have coming up. Really good stuff from Tempest1 here. It's great to hear from those in similar situations or experience. That's invaluable.
Also, please let us know what you find out from the sigmoid. It's that type of info that can be helpful to others on this site as well. I know you already know that.😁👍

Good luck Tom...hope everything was found and dealt with..jx
Sorry just wanted to ask you another question. Did you take the drink the day before or on the day of your procedure. There are going to give me an enema but I take that in the place where I am going for the procedure.
I do not have much blood either just like spots and given that the Qfit was just over the threshold. I do not have a fissure as that was checked. Yes I am taking comfort from the fact that the GP said that he did not think. Some of my bowel movements are painful. Thank you for taking the time to reply and share your opinions with me it defintely helps to know that there are others out there with something similar and even the constipation could cause blood in stool due to straining. Since I started developing chronic constipation about June this year I had rectal bleeding for three days and it turned out to be nothing bad and that stage it was put down to possibly the stress of having to strain over a long period of time. At least my blood count was normal, liver and kidney function normal. Had a chest xray about 1 month ago for another condition all clear there as I know if bowel cancer has spread it tends to effect liver and lungs. Anyway thanks for listening to me and I hope I have not bored you.
Thanks for everything and hopefully every thing will work out ok.
