Blood in stool. Positive qfit test. Anxiety is above and beyond.

Hi I've been having blood in my stool for a few weeks now approximately 8 weeks from when I have noticed it.When I first contacted the doctor he done a stool test and all came back OK, bleeding kept going on so I went to a different doctor and she done a qfit test which came back positive.

I now have my appointment for a colonoscopy in just over 2 weeks time.

But my anxiety is through the roof to the point I can barley stand up straight.

I'm not really having pain or stomach discomfort I am sore at the very low part of the left rib tho doctor said "floating rib damage" I don't exercise etc I just woke at 2am in the night with the pain.

Stool are mixed consistency sometime ls diarrhea sometimes wee pepples most times mushy/soft or the stool can be soft with pebbles in it.

Have lost 9lb in weightin the space of about 9 weeks.

Suppose I'm just looking some reassurance and to be able to talk to someone. I try to put on a strong head and don't talk about it to my partner so he doesn't be worried (he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2021 thankfully now he's just over a year cancer free)

I will add a few pictures of what I am experiencing sorry of they are TMI.

Has anyone has these symptoms and have turned out not to be the 'big C"

Thank you for reading if you've got this far.

The qfit is not a diagnosis so a positive test could be many things. My qfit was always under 3*. Yet i still have every red flag of bc including iron anaemia which can be a bc red flag. After numerous probes into the colon, small bowel and stomach, several unrelated diseases we're diagnosed but not bc. So ive got lots going on. I wouldn't assume anything until something, if anything is found.

Hi L93sassytray,

Thank you for posting on Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to hear you’re having to deal with these issues. I am however proud that you are not ignoring them and getting them checked out. I am very glad to see you’re getting the colonoscopy👍👏❤️. That is the gold standard to getting you the answers you’re looking for. I’m not sure what that first doctor was thinking but I’m glad you went to the second one. I’m a big fan of second opinions as well.

There can be many causes for what you’re experiencing. That’s why it’s so important to get good answers. I have seen people experiencing these symptoms and it did turn out to be not the “big C”. You shouldn’t be surprised that your FIT test came back positive as you did mention you knew there was blood in your stool for approximately 8 weeks. Blood in the stool is definitely something to get checked out. Again, it can be caused by a lot of different things and the fact that you’re getting a colonoscopy will give you some good answers. That’s the important thing to focus on. I know anxiety can be real but it is self inflicted. Focus on the fact you're doing the right things to get the answers you need. Doing the prep for the colonoscopy is very important as well. I get an annual colonoscopy and if you want some tips on how to make it go easier let me know.😁🤔👍

Another thing to think about is if there is any hereditary aspect to certain disease and medical situations. That is good information for your doctor to know as that good guide some further testing that needs to be done. Just make sure your doctor knows all the symptoms that are going on. I'm not sure what "floating rid damage" is, but I had a cracked 7th rib from a bike crash and it just had to heal on its own.

I do wish you the very best in getting the answers you’re looking for. Your colonoscopy should give you that. Also, please let us know what you find out as it is that type of information that could be help with others on this site as well.

BTW ... I’m glad to see that your partner beat testicular cancer in 2021. That is outstanding. That makes us both on the survivor side of cancer and that’s a good place to be. Has your partner had genetic testing to see if the cancer was hereditary? Good info to know.

Thank you,

Thanks so much for your reply.

Yes absolutely he is doing brilliant now. He wasn't offered and testing unfortunately.

Yes I would like some tips for the colonoscopy of you don't mind.

I'm a bit unsure of the food allowed and not allowed.

(I'm a very fussy easter as it is)

Scan is on the 27th and still seems like a lifetime away tbh, I'm praying with all my life that it's nothing major but time will tell.

Yes your totally right anxiety is self inflicted but very hard to over come. I did have it bad a fee years ago and unfortunately the doctor I seen was no help so fought through it myself for over a year I don't want it getting that bad this time although it's very close some days I can't stand up with the feeling in my stomach from it😞

Delight to hear you have beat cancer 👏👏

It's scary times we are living in.

I am also sending you some prayers that you will be put on the path to be well very soon.🙏 The colonoscopy should provide you with some good answers. There can be a lot of reasons for what you're experiencing and I hope nothing will be major.

Food before the colonoscopy. On my own, I stop eating nuts a couple of days prior. It's not necessary, but I feel I'm helping the procedure. Other than that, I eat what I want. My last meal is the evening 2 days before the procedure. So, no eating at all the day before the procedure.

The preparation involves drinking a lot of liquid so you get cleaned out. I often add things like lime Gatorade (nothing red) to thin it out and provide better flavor.

As far as the colonoscopy, I found that if I move the timeline of the preparation that you have to do the day before and the day of the procedure up one hour or hour and 1/2, that helps me get through the rough part earlier in the evening. This way I can get a good night's sleep. I'm not focused on needing a bathroom. I also try to schedule the procedure for early in the morning the next day. You may have to get up very early if you move the schedule an hour to an hour and a 1/2 up on procedure day. But it's beneficial as well because you won't be worried about finding a bathroom and you can focus your mind on having a good scan.

I also get full sedation when I do the colonoscopy. Find it to be the most relaxing sleep that I ever get. They use a drug called propofol to knock me out. But it is so relaxing. The actual colonoscopy for me lasts about 15 to 25 minutes. Then you're just recovering from the sedation for 40 minutes to an hour and then you can go home.

I do wish you all the best for the 27th. I think you'll do well and I'm sending positive vibz your way for great results.❤️

You got this ... 👍❤️

Thank you both for you luck unfortunately my scan was put off to tomorrow. Currently trying to drink my prep and to be honest it's the worst taste I've ever experienced in my life 🙈 how anyone is ment to drink all that in 30 is beyond me. I'm past the 30 mins but still drink bits. It's not pleasant 😕

hi L93sassytray how did this all work out for you?

Yes I had this and I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at my colonoscopy a month ago. I was given a prescription on the day and the medicine has worked wonders. I’m a mum. I feared the worst. I think it’s hard not too. The pain in the left side is a real nuisance. Mine always switched between a pain and an ache. I was loosing quite a lot of blood. I was also taking ibuprofen to try and help the stomach pain, well, that was a huge mistake as made my pains and bleeding so much worse. You’re so close to getting some answers. I hope it all goes well. Have you tried speaking to your dr about your anxiety? I suffer from health anxiety. When it’s been really bad ive been prescribed diazapam for short term use xx
