For about 8 months I was having straight diarrhea and the last 2 months I'm having so bad constipation but I cannot use the restroom without taking a laxative if I don't take a laxative I cannot go to the restroom. I feel like there's a blockage when I do go to the restroom they're pencil thin it's like something's blocking it I've had a dramatic change in my bowel habits. And I'm never been constipated like this ever. I'm very scared I go to see the GI doctor soon. I demanded my doctor for a colonoscopy he says I'm too young I'm 38 but I don't think I'm too young and then he finally referred me to get one so now I'm just waiting but I'm very scared because I feel like something's wrong.

Hi tiffanyp123,

Thanks for reaching out on Colon Cancer Connected. I am so proud of you!! You should never accept a diagnosis for anything based on your age. I absolutely cringe when someone says that their doctor says something couldn't be happening because you are too young. I am proud of you that you are getting referred to get a colonoscopy. It is absolutely the gold standard for figuring out what's going on.

Catching things early is always the best thing to do. What you are describing could be a blockage. You're correct in getting it checked out and the colonoscopy should get you the answers you're looking for. The thing I want you to focus on is getting that appointment date. Please be proactive about calling and finding out when you will be scheduled. You should be given priority since what you are describing may be some kind of blockage. It looks like you need to see the GI doctor first and then get the colonoscopy scheduled. So please focus on that. Get that appointment date. Don't let them schedule you way down the road because you are young.

Another thing to think about is if there is a history of disease within your family. Is there a hereditary aspect to anything going on. There would be good information for your doctor to know.

We do wish you the very best in your upcoming appointments. You are absolutely correct that you are never too young. Please let us know what you find out. It is that type of information that can be helpful to others on this site as well.

Proud of you👏👍💪❤️ And I have some colonoscopy prep tips if you want them. Given my situation, I get a colonoscopy and CT scan annually.

Thank you,

Thank you so much of course I am on top of them apparently my Dr still hasn't sent my referral to the GI Dr yet but I keep calling and I will get my appointment. if there is something wrong I want them to catch it before it's too late. And thanks for this site because the site has helped me a lot because I knew nothing about colon cancer or nothing about anything like that. And if we just listen to our bodies our bodies will tell us what's wrong cuz I knew that there was something definitely wrong. It's just getting these doctors to realize that we're not to young . they just laugh in our face it took me three times to get my doctor to write the referral. And I will let you guys all know what happens thanks again for your support ❤️
