. I am in hospital at the moment with a bad bout of diverticulitis, treating with intravenous antibiotics, and pain management for my many other health issues. I don’t know that much about diverticulitis and the staff in the hospital mostly too busy to give me any answers . What I wanted to know is it common to be admitted to hospital with this?what can I do to help myself? I get very constipated as ITake dihydracodieine once a day at night60 mg is there an alternative med for pain? I also take Pregablin and Paracetamol on occasion . Also is it unwise to take laxatives every day to keep things moving? Can it damage your bowel even more . Can anyone explain what causes the severe pain and what causes you not being able to pass wind ext Thankyou for your patience in reading this

answers for diverticulitis
Hi junik53,
Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. It looks like you have a lot of questions for your doctor here. I hope you get a chance to ask him or his NP. As far as diverticulitis, this is a definition: Diverticulitis, also called colonic diverticulitis, is a gastrointestinal disease characterized by inflammation of abnormal pouches—diverticula—which can develop in the wall of the large intestine.
There can be mild to chronic cases. It looks like pain is often associated with it. I would definitely ask your doctor about your case of diverticulitis. Depending on the severity, I would assume that would warrant admission to the hospital. You need to know what's going on with you.❤️ I hope you get to ask these questions to your doctor soon so you don't have to worry about it so much.
Were you on the dihydrocodeine before you got the diverticulitis? Because pain can be one of these symptoms associated with diverticulitis. It also sounds like you're playing a little song and dance between the constipation caused by being on pain medicine being countered by laxatives to keep things moving. I know in my cancer fight I had to do some of that as well. It was a balance between taking medication for diarrhea but not so much as to cause constipation.
You do have a lot of good questions. Please get these in front of your doctor and get an explanation so you can understand why things are happening. I hope you get out of the hospital very soon and get on the path to being well.
Maybe you can ask to speak to one of the nurse practitioners and they will have the time to get you some answers. You could go as far as requesting to talk to someone from the hospital administration. Just tell them you're not getting your questions answered. I would hope someone would find the time to do that for you and do it to your satisfaction.
I do wish you the best in getting well soon. I hope your hospital stay is short yet productive. Get those answers.👍

Thankyou so much for your reply,I am now out of hospital but with no more knowledge than I went in with . The result of the ct scan was oh it’s just diverticulitis duh knew that then with instructions to her minions the consultant was gone almost in a puff of smoke. The nurses ,bless them ,every bit of their time used up by various dutys and they answered as many questions as they could , but they are not specialists on the subject and wouldn’t have the time anyway. Is it appropriate to be referred to a specialist or should I just get answers from my doctor . I have been given a link to a site called gutsuk and will have a look at that . My education on the subject begins , knowledge is power and all that .
