blood from rectum, very scared

hello,

I’m very scared and looking for advice. I’m 20 years old and last Friday I noticed that I had blood after I went to the toilet. The blood wasn’t in the stool but on the toilet paper after. It wasn’t a lot of blood and was quite a bright red and looked a little slimy. I went to the doctor and she said it was an anal fissure. However since then, the blood has gotten very heavy and has gotten to a wine red. I haven’t had a lot of pain but have had a bit of discomfort. Also, I constantly feel like I need to go but don’t actually need to. I feel like I’ve been going to the toilet more often. I do have ibs but I haven’t had any of those symptoms. I don’t know what to do and I’m so scared.

Hi Reddddbluee,

Thank you for posting on colon cancer connected. I'm sorry that you're having to deal with these issues. Anytime there was blood as a symptom it definitely needs to get checked out and determined what the cause is.

Your doctor said it was an anal fissure. Did your doctor say anything about it being chronic or Crohn's disease? There's a couple of tests that can be done to give you better information. You could have a sigmoidoscopy or even a colonoscopy to help determine what is exactly going on.

It doesn't sound like you're done with the diagnosis. There are other test procedures that need to be done to narrow down exactly what's going on. Hopefully these things will be happening for you very soon.

We do wish you the very best in finding out exactly the cause of what you're experiencing. An anal fissure needs to be investigated fully. We hope that happens for you soon.

Please do keep us up to speed on your next steps. Information like that could be helpful to others on this site.

Thank you,

~Tom, GCCA Survivor - Colon Cancer Connected Site Administrator.

Consider return to doctor or another doctor. What you describe needs checking. I presume youve not had scope?. Your age doesn't matter.

Not what you're looking for?
