Worried 24 year old!

Hi! I hope this is okay to post on here. I have had 3 episodes of slight bright red blood in my poo. The first was the 10th January, the second was 2 weeks after and the third was yesterday. I have had abdominal ache for 3 weeks not pain as such more like an annoying period pain but an ache! I didn’t want to waste the doctors time and I saw this group so I wondered if anyone has any reassurance or whether I should go to the doctors?

Thank you 😊

Hi pinkgin98,

Thank you for posting on colon cancer connected. This is the place to ask that question. Anytime there is blood in the stool it is something that needs to be checked out. There can be many causes for what you are experiencing, and you need to get them narrowed down. Anytime there is something “off” and blood is involved you should get it checked out.

Yes, you are young. That is definitely a benefit. But it is not a reason to ignore symptoms. I am proud you are asking these questions. So, no matter what you find out is going on, you'll be catching it early and that's exactly what you need to be doing. So please make an appointment and have it checked out. It'll put your mind at ease and put you on a path to be well.

Another thing you should know is that you should never accept a diagnosis based on your age. You have symptoms here and you want to know why they are occurring. Never accept that you're too young to have it checked out. Trust me, it's always better to catch things early. Your doctor should have several tests he can put you through. One will probably be a FIT test which will confirm that there is blood in the stool. You may be asked to get a colonoscopy. That is absolutely the best way to determine what is going on and get you some good answers. I always like to say that a person is never too young to get a colonoscopy.

Another thing to think about when you go visit your doctor is if there is any family history of health issues. That would be good information for your doctor to know and could possibly help guide you in the direction you need to be going.

I'm glad you posted here and asked your question. I think you're all over this and you're going to be great👏👍. We do wish you all the best and getting these answers. Please check back with us and tell us what you're going to do and what you find out. It's that type of information that can be helpful to others on this site❤️.

Thank you,

Good morning GCCA-Survivor!

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. That is really reassuring to hear. I will ring the doctors today and make an appointment.

Hopefully it is something minor but like you said it’s best to get it checked.

Thank you again and have a great day!
