Suddenly experiencing bloody mucus in stool

Hi everyone, I think just like everyone else I am worried and running here to ask for some advice. I am generally someone who deals with constipation and I live comfortably with my bathroom habits despite not going every single day. I've never really had any issues other than constipation before. Well, my dearly departed Mum suffered from Diverticulitis and actually had a burst colon. The last 2 days I have been experiencing needing to go to the bathroom much more frequently however it's not very large amounts of stool, and it all has bloody mucus in it. I also was experiencing bloody, mucusy passed gas, as well as regular passed gas that smelled abnormally bad compared to one's usual odor. (lol) Lastly, I am feeling some discomfort/mild pain from below the belly button but above the pubic region. I apologize for the graphic picture but I know we're all adults here and we've probably all been looking at pictures of other people's poo if we're worried about our own.

(I am a 24 year old female, 5 foot 7, 125 pounds, workout daily, no alcohol or smoking, no drugs other than an SSRI Citalopram 20mg that I have taken for years now) Thanks!

Hi velzy,

Thank you for posting on Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to see you're having to deal with these symptoms. I do know that blood in the stool is a definite sign that you need to find out what's causing it. Please know there can be a whole lot of things responsible for this. I see you're familiar with the diverticulitis. It could be hemorrhoids it could be polyps it could be many different things. The key is getting it narrowed down and getting some good answers so you can focus on what needs to be done.

Is there a family history that you know about? You are young and definitely have a healthy lifestyle going on and you have that going for you. But don't let that be a reason to not get things checked out. I will definitely schedule a visit with your GP and that can lead to some tests that can get you some answers. You may be given a FIT test which is a measure of blood in the stool sample. More than likely this will come back positive as you have already experienced blood in the stool already. But it may be a test that you're given. Please make a list of your symptoms. Especially your lower abdominal pain.

Your GP should be able to put you through some tests that may determine what's causing this. If the answers can't be found with the physical test you may need to get a colonoscopy. One of my favorite sayings is “you're never too young for a colonoscopy”. 😁🤟

We do wish you the very best in finding out what's going on🧡. Also, please get it checked out by your doctor. I'm glad to see you already questioning this on this site. That's a good sign that you are definitely seeking answers.

And please let us know what you find out. This type of information can prove to be beneficial to others on this site as well. So please give us an update.👍

Thank you,
