positive FIT test

so I’ve been having blood in my bowel movements on and off for around 6 years. Had 2 colonoscopy’s done previously, first one had some inflammation in the TI but nothing major and second one just had hemorroids. Went for an appointment in March at the hospital and they referred me to have a sigmoidoscopy and a EUA, whilst waiting for that referral the bleeding happened again so I called the doctor who gave me some FIT tests, I handed my samples in on the 3/8/22 and got a phone call on 5/8 to say it was positive and I have a 2 week referral now. I’m just abit anxious because my dad had lynch syndrome and I’m currently waiting for a referral to genetics aswell.

Hi Kitch97,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to see you're having to deal with a lot of this. I must say that the you already knew you had some bleeding, so a positive FIT was exactly what you should have expected. I must say that it took 2 months to get your results is very concerning. That is waaaaaaaaay too long to get results. I'm shaking my head at that.

Your father has lynch syndrome. So do I. When he found out he had lynch, you should have been introduced to genetic testing right away. Was that offered at that time? How long ago was your father's genetic testing. How is your father doing?

You are moving in the right direction with the genetic testing. The sooner the better. You look to be in line to get an colonoscopy to determine the cause of your bleeding. If you have lynch, getting the colonoscopy is very good as well. You are seeking answers and I am very glad you are doing this. I just wish it was happening a lot faster for you. Early detection is key.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. I have lynch syndrome. I am MSI-h (MicroSatelite Instability high) , dMMR (deficient Mis-Match Repair) and that's from the genetic test. It's my biomarker. You need to know your biomarker as well. It put me on a path of an eventual targeted clinical trial with an immunotherapy.

Before I had received my first chemo, they had me do genetic testing. Finding I had lynch, the genetic testing company (Ambry Genetics) was very relentless about everyone on my father's side of family to get tested.

I do wish you the very best in getting your answers. Get the colonoscopy. Get that genetic testing. Your biomarkers will tell you a lot and could lead you to some very beneficial things. Please let us know how thing turn out for you. It can be very beneficial to other as well.

Positive results!!!! All the best.👍🤟🙏

Thank You,

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply, Yeah I’ve had bleeding on and off for years, had FiT tests before and have not come back positive but I don’t think I did the previous one before this one right 🤷‍♀️ It only took 2 days to get the results when I was told could take 1-2 weeks just amazed how quick they came back.

Yeah he had lynch syndrome. He passed november 2021. I was only made aware of the lynch syndrome after he passed as we wasn’t that close. But I want to say it was a msh 2 and msh6 that was his mutations.

You sound like you’re fighting it well, all the best x

Sorry to hear about your father. If you have lynch, it's important to catch it early. Yes, I have it. You need to know if you have it as well.

My surveillance is an annual colonoscopy, annual CT scan and an endoscopy every 3 years. I actually have a specific lynch doctor that keeps up on the latest things to do. With lynch, cancer can hide from your immune system.

So please find out if you have it. It's a pretty big piece of information to have especially if you already know it's in your family.
