Hi justme227,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. I'm sorry that these symptoms are causing you anxiety. You definitely need to find some answers. With what you have going on physically, please get checked out by your doctor. There are several tests that can be done to gain the knowledge. A FIT test can determine if there is some blood in your stool. And if there is, that can be caused by lot of different reasons, but it's a starting place.

I am very sorry to hear about your parents. Your father passed away from colon cancer. Given your family history, you definitely need to get genetic testing to determine if a hereditary cancer runs in your family. This will help your entire family. With this information, other's in the family may need to get checked as well. With this knowledge, you can determine the type of health checks that need to be done for surveillance. Prevention and catching things early are KEY.

I had stage 4 colon cancer. One of the first things I did was get genetic testing. I am what's called MSI-H. My family has what is called Lynch Syndrome. Knowing this, I have to get certain tests each year so if something does show up, we will know it early and be able to fight it better.

Yes, you are young. You have that going for you which is good. You are already reaching out for answers to your symptoms. That is very encouraging. You are catching things early. You need to follow through and get some answers. Never think you are too young to be going after these answers.

I do wish you the very best in finding some answers. Please focus on getting this done. I know that's easier said than done, but it will go a long way to helping you with the depression, anxiety and stress. You gain that knowledge and you'll know what to focus your efforts on in a positive way. Please keep us informed as it may help others going through some similar situations.

Thank You,

~Tom, GCCA Survivor - Colon Cancer Connected Site Administrator.

Hi, yes you could be suffering the diarrhoea and constipation because of anxiety. With your history you need to see a doctor , have the tests and maybe a referral to hospital for a colonoscopy. This will just find what the problem is. If there is one. If it is genetic like Lynches then you will probably have tests every year. My friend has this Syndrome, her brother and cousins also, luckily her children do not. She just has a colonoscopy every year so if anything occurs it is dealt with straight away. Do not sit and worry, listening to unhelpful family, see a doctor and get sorted . Good luck.
