Sorry for the picture, but it’s probably a better description than my worden
I’m worried about my 42-year-old sister.
She had a small bit of blood on her stool last week with mucous coating. She says blood was rust coloured - see photo.
She has had two incidences of mucous previously in months past.
When she had mucous previously, she had two negative FIT tests.
We have a family history of gastric cancer.
When she saw blood on stool last week, she had a virtual colonoscopy and all came back normal. She has slight pain under lower right rib…Maybe where ileum is located?
I’m worried the blood might be indicative of bleeding from higher up…
Anyone else have occasional mucous mixed with blood on outside of stool? Is it significant that it seems to be on the outside of the stool?
Thanks for any thoughts!

Sorry to hear what your sister is going through. You are a good sister reaching out to help her👍.
Are the symptoms continuing today? Your family has a history of gastric cancer. Gastric cancer is a stomach cancer. Knowing this, your family must be on some kind of surveillance to detect anything that may develop early.
Having a virtual colonoscopy is good. That is a CT scan. If the results were "normal" and the conditions continue, there must be some form of follow up procedure with her doctor? She's having pain below the rib area.
There are many reasons that could cause blood in the stool. It definitely needs to be addressed with her doctor especially since there's pain associated with it.
We do wish you the very best in your efforts to get more information about this. Please have your sister get further tests until you get a good explanation and on a curative path. Also, let us know what you find out. These things are particularly helpful to other that may be experiencing the same things.
I hope your sister knows you are helping her out in a big way. Maybe someone else on this site will have some experience with these symptoms.

Thank you for your reply! She has slight discomfort under her rib cage still today, but her stool is normal. The blood and mucous have only happened a couple of times since last fall…
Yes…So far, she has an XRay and ultrasound scheduled, and she is being referred to a gastroenterologist. I’m just worried if there is something serious, it could take too long….
