Bright Blood in my stool and today I found blood clots and dark blood! PLZ HELP

Hi all

I have occasionally had bright blood when wiping my bum for about 7 years now, my mum and sister both have Haemorrhoids so I self diagnosed myself with piles and never got it checked out, until a month ago, when I was walking my dog and suddenly felt blood dripping down my legs. I quickly went home and jumped in the shower, the bleeding was heavy but stopped within about 20 minutes.

Next day I went to my GP who checked my bum and said I have an Internal and External haemorrhoid. I had the week before done a blood test, which he said showed nothing wrong and were actually really healthy. I was prescribed a cream and these pills I put in my bum.

I used the medication but found I would bleed bright blood every time I went to the toilet, this continued for about 3 weeks (blood in every stool, more than I ever had before). After 3 weeks the bleeding stopped for about a week. A couple of days ago I could actually feel one of the haemorrhoids on the outside of my bum was really swollen, especially during the night when I would go out to walk and was quite painful. Yesterday I started bleeding again when going to the toilet, except this time I found dark blood clots in my stool as well as the fresh blood and I'm really really scared. After bleeding again the external haemorrhoid that was painful and I could feel when walking has now gone back in again and the pain is gone.

I should also note that when I visited my GP we also did a stool sample test to see if the bleeding could be coming from somewhere else but the results came back at 50%, meaning it was in the middle and results were inconclusive, my GP said that this was expected because I had heavy bleeding when taking my stool sample, he said that if it comes back at midway then it means its likely just my haemorrhoids.

Are dark blood clots normal with haemorrhoids or a situation such as mine? Should I go to the ER ?

Hi, what you are describing is an external thrombosed hemorrhoid, A thrombosed hemorrhoid occurs when a blood clot forms inside a hemorrhoidal vein, obstructing blood flow and causing a painful swelling of the anal tissues. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are not dangerous, but they can be very painful and you will feel great relief when the clot comes out or as you said the black blood even though one can never be sure it is better that you do a rectal scopy since blood is red, it means that it comes from the lower parts of the colon just to get some peace of mind, doing warm sitz baths is very helpful in your case, but do an anu scopy or a more general scopy like colon scopy is always recomended in case of rectal bleed. Hi imnobody33 ... There seems to be a family history of bleeding. You've raised some very important observations and did take actions with your GP for clarity. That's a good move on your part. With your FIT test coming back as "inconclusive" and is "likely just my haemorrhoids", you are rightfully looking for more of a conclusive answer to give you peace of mind.

If it is possible, I would think you should look into having a colonoscopy performed. This would be the best way to see if the bleeding is just hemorrhoid induced or caused by something more internal.
