CHRONS OR COLON CANCER

Hi everyone, back in July I had a colonoscopy and results came back with inflammation in the bowl saying it could be Chrons and to come back in 3 months. Time has now passed and my bowl movements are inconsistent with occasionally blood & also anal fissures, I often get pain on my left side including bloating & I have been feeling fatigued. Am I having a flare up? I have a lump that the dr put down to a hernia without any scans. I am concerned I have been misdiagnosed and potentially could have Colon Cancer. I am sometimes constipated & also have edgy ribbon stools with small amounts of blood. Most of the time different shades of blood. I have decided to book an appointment for Saturday with another dr to get scans and referral for another colonoscopy as I feel it is getting worse over time. Please if anyone can comment, I’d be so grateful.

Hi anonymous_1365,

Thank you for posting on Colon Cancer Connected. I think you're doing exactly what needs to be done. Anytime bleeding is a symptom, it needs to be determined what the cause is. Yeah, I don't think you got good information at your last visit. You need good answers and I think you're going to get them Saturday. Make sure you write down all your symptoms you're experiencing so you can express that to the new Doctor. Explain the history of it that you definitely want a definitive answer as to what's going on. I think you're working on speculation from that last doctor. Also, if there are any hereditary medical issues that you know about, be sure to bring that up to the doctor as well.

We do wish you the best with your visit on Saturday. I hope you get set up for some tests that will give you better answers as to what's going on. And hopefully this will put you on a path to being well. Please let us know what you find out. Is this type of information that can be useful to others on this site as well.

Thank you,

~Tom, GCCA Survivor - Colon Cancer Connected Site Administrator.

hi there! Thanks for sharing. Good luck with it all, I’m glad you got onto it sooner. Do you mind if I ask what stage you are and your symptoms? It has been very hard to get drs/ specialists to take this more seriously. I am now getting bloods done, ultra sound and colonoscopy.

hi there thank you so much for your reply, I started in mid January with very bad stomach problems and on the toilet constantly ! then one day I had fresh blood on a panty liner which I’ve been wearing, then my bowel screening test kit came, so I waited till all had settled down, it came back positive, got the colonoscopy booked immediately on 3/2/23 scans MRI blood test all done swiftly, just under 5 weeks in all I’m so lucky and grateful to our brilliant NHS , i do hope you get it all sorted soon take care of yourself 🤞🤞

What did the doctors say when you went back in October?. Did you get biopsies of inflammation?

hi Tony, the drs said there was inflammation in the bowl and that the Right/left colon and rectal biopsies were normal but showed focal acute ileitis and to come back, I feel as though it still didn’t give me any answers because they made no effect to help fix the issue apart from come back in 3 months for another colonoscopy due to not actually having a diagnosis and since then my symptoms have escalated. I’m now having bloods, ultrasound and another colonoscopy done.
