Worried I have bowel cancer

I,m new. For the past couple of months I,ve felt very tired and have discomfort down my left side resulting in me wanting to go to the toilet, sometimes it’s like a paste and sometimes very lose. I have a slight pain but it’s not a gripey pain, no blood but needing to go sometimes 5 times day and night. what were the symptoms some of you had? My mother died with bowel cancer at 69 and apparently must have had it for at least 2 years and didn,t know,I,m 71 and very worried. My doctor doesn’t,t give me confidence, he brushes you off with medication and doesn’t, refer you. I had a colonoscopy 6 years ago because I was bleeding,it was due to haemorrhoids. It is midnight and I,ve been woken with discomfort so in the darkness of night I,m worrying.

If it is a change in your normal bowel habits I would ask your doctor to refer you to a gastroenterologist. My symptoms were diarrhea and visible red blood also bloating and gas and feeling very tired. Please get it checked it will ease your worries.

It could be a lot of different things and not cancer at all. God Bless and keep in touch.

Thanks for your reply, I find it very difficult to converse with my Sri Lankan doctor, he always looks at you vaguely and doesn’t,t interact, that is when I get past the dragon receptionists! But I must pursue this because I,m full of worry day and night.

Maybe you should find a doctor you are more comfortable with. The sooner the better. God bless!!

It’s awful being worried in the middle of the night isn’t it. Things always seen better during the day don’t they.

You definitely need to get checked out again, don’t be frightened to ask for a different doctor or actually change doctors surgeries. You can tell them your worried about bowel cancer and request a referral / colonoscopy. You have to be your own advocate and keep at them :)

I sleep so bad! The nights are dark and dismal and we tend to overthink. I got an appointment with the doctor on November 1. Thanks for the reply

Go back to the Doctor. Symptoms really vary. I had constipation and cancer wasn't picked up until routine screening
