Hi all. My wife and I really looking forward to 2 days away walking Jan 1st. I had a bit of a cold and chesty coughing so got checked out via 111 and diagnosed antibiotics and sent away. So off we went. However I got much worse including sickness and diarrhea. So we came home after 1st day. Ever since I've been in bed. Taking paracetamol every 4 hours for headache and temperature. Propped up in bed non stop coughing. So I rang team at hospital this morning but as now off meds Ibrutinib and venetoclax from six weeks ago and they felt bloods fine, the nurse told me to ring docs and get them to listen to chest.
A bit unsure how to progress as over 2 weeks now and not getting any better.
Any ideas?

I would ring the docs and explain. If you are still suffering they should be able to hear it in your chest. I am not a doctor or medically trained, just my gut feel. Good luck
You need to be checked for pneumonia if they haven’t already done so. I went through this in June and ended up with double pneumonia. A sputum test is needed to identify the pathogen (not always done by the NHS). Keep a close eye on your temp, b/p and pulse and contact 111 again if you feel your condition is getting worse.
Rest up, plenty of warm drinks and hopefully you’ll be feeling much better soon. It seemed to take me forever and in terms of the incessant cough, only a codeine based cough medicine (needs to be prescribed) seemed to work.
Thanks Newdawn my wife and ex Nurse so I know I'm in good hands. Had 3 bouts of COVID and carried on as normal so this is all a bit scary. I'll ask doc about cough meds.Your so kind in getting back so quickly.
I'd say to get it checked. I had what I thought was a cold/flu; saw my GP, she said "straight to the hospital for a chest X-ray" they admitted me immediately and I spent a week in hospital being dosed up on co-amoxiclav in bicycle-pump sized syringefulls, and clarithromycin tablets. It turned out to be "community acquired pneumonia". If I had realised that things were potentially bad earlier, I would have used my rescue-pack of amoxycillin and possibly nipped it in the bud. As my haematologist said, "it's a lesson learned".
Thanks. Yes I went to doctors today and he thinks it's flu. Finished course of antibiotics today with more if needed but not much point if viral as doctor seems to think. I was offered an x-ray at hospital though.
Aren't some types of pneumonia bacterial, so it would be a good idea to take the antibiotics now since you have been so ill for a while? ( not a medical person here.) Did they already look at the xray?
Although I couldn't fault the nursing care in the Royal Surrey, being in hospital is not a pleasant place to be, even for just a week. Avoid it if you can.
