The operation isn’t painful or difficult so don’t despair. I think with all the interventions we’ve been through with our CLL it’s another operation that mentally appears as a burden, the unknown! A colonoscopy isn’t painful but simply an inconvenience. I’ve had 2 in 5 years and polyps were found in the lower bowel and removed. And the last surgeon photographed one to show me. They just look like little thumbs. Please don’t worry, it will probably be just fine.
colonoscopy: The operation isn’t painful or... - CLL Support
colonoscopy
Any even mildly invasive procedure can have deleterious effects. I know two different folks that were hospitalized with infection from a tear. Knowing that, one cannot ignore that we do carry greater risk with immunocompromised immune systems.
I'm not saying never, and for every person possibly injured there are those that were caught in time. So, know the person handling the procedure. Furthermore, although total sedation may please the psyche, partial sedation gives the examiner physiological feedback that they can adjust to before causing a worse injury, as explained by my physician.
Always consult with your own medical professional for any choices.🙂
So if you dismiss my 2 operative successes, why are you asking ? You have already, if you do have CLL, decided about partial sedation if you do proceed.
I give you honest support? Go figure!
First, I didn't ask a question. I offered a viewpoint to your post. Your quote, "but simply an inconvenience". Is inaccurate. I think that these tests are so common place that many fall into a trap of claiming they're perfectly safe.
My point is not your personal colonoscopy per se. Rather, that as immunocompromised people with other medical issues, we need to be specific in evaluating "common" tests and run a slightly different risk analysis that accounts for the oops moments that many healthy people can endure as an inconvenience and realize that isn't necessarily the case.
I tried in good faith to handle my comment to your post in an even handed manner, I'm sorry you felt dismissed.
dontruminate,
Looks like you have experience with Colonoscopy, can you help FiArt12X?
So do you actually have CLL? You sound like a 4th year med student studying on line.
I've received 2 posts from HealthUnlocked about colonoscopy and I've replied to the last question they sent. I didn't respond to you directly but to the general HealthUnlocked post.
And regardless of what you say, you tone is dismissive. You also sound like you are very worried and anxious & not trusting the medical world.
I've had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, FDR chemo & Aculabrutinib & Ibrutinib treatments. If you think I'm being flippant in down playing a much simpler colonoscopy surgery you are wrong. I'm tired of all the hysteria & fear we cancer folks go through. Not to mention questionable medical practises.
So perhaps get more advice from the medical world, not someone who has experienced a fair amount of treatment.
Ok, I think I see the problem. In bring up the member FiArt12X, I've gone back through the recent posts. It seems that in trying to address their post you replied as a post rather than make a comment to them within their post.
So, you've inadvertently started a conversation and now are upset that I added an observation. I'm not connected with the FiArt12X post I made no comments there.
You are fighting a battle that isn't there. And for some reason you feel that negates my diagnosis among other projections, directed towards me. It's ok, no hard feelings.
Re-read what you have written here and the original post healthunlocked.com/cllsuppo...
and you'll find the miscommunication. 🙂✌️
although my colonoscopy went fine and was pre CLL, I did have significant post bleeding with stomach cramps that were unbearable - lying on floor in agony and debating calling an ambulance. I believe the contributing factor was taking antibiotics before the Op (several doses due to recurring sinusitis). So there are risk factors.
I was watching my procedure on a large screen while they did it. Quite instructive. Saw 2 polyps dangling there then cut off with an electric wire loop. Then caking the bleeding with the electric current. What amazed me most was the smooth (albeit corrugated ) pink, tender mucous layer of the colon. I know, it was after cleansing. But some think it is dirty and needs to be scraped clean through certain food choices. Which could not be further from the truth.
The worst part of a colonoscopy is the preparation; the actual procedure is easy.
Sadly not in every case 😞 I've had plenty over the years but the last was excruciating. Previously I had a ct scan where gas was inserted and that too was agony, afterwards the technician mentioned I had a leaky valve and gas was going where it shouldn't hence the pain, just wish I'd written down what he told me as nurses since seem to be confused when I mentioned it. I'm due another colonoscopy next spring (and annually for ever) and I'm absolutely dreading it, no one seems to understand how painful it is
I had an endoscopy + colonoscopy yesterday. For me, the worst part was the preparation (which has improved over the years). Afterwards, the top of my mouth was tender for about 15 minutes and later in the evening, I had some discomfort from the expected bloating, but that was about it. Given we do have a higher risk of secondary primary cancer, including bowel cancer, having these regularly, even if occult blood faecal tests are negative, is worth the temporary discomfort in my opinion.
